Installing Printed Windshield Banners 2

For car enthusiasts, every detail matters, especially when it comes to exterior and interior aesthetics. Installing a printed windshield sticker is an excellent way to make a loud and unapologetic statement to everyone who crosses your path ensuring that your car becomes an unforgettable testament to your vibrant build. But how do you ensure perfect fitment, particularly with the curvature of the windshield playing a crucial role? Let’s dive into the details.

Understanding the Curvature Challenge

The most significant challenge of installing a windshield banner lies in the curve of the glass and the contour of the roof. A sticker that appears perfectly sized on a flat surface may end up looking inappropriate or even have to be cut when applied to a curved windshield. The more curvature your windshield or roof has, the wider your banner will need to be. This is because, during installation, the curvature will effectively “shrink” the visible area of the sticker, requiring you to trim the edges for a snug fit.

Options for Perfect Fitment

To address the issue of varying windshield curvatures, it’s wise to offer multiple options for banner sizes. For vehicles with more pronounced curves, a wider banner can be the solution for achieving that perfect fit without sacrificing the design or message you want to display. The thinner 6 inch wide banner is preferable for mostly straight windshields. Wider versions (8 inch, 10 inch, or 12 inch) are recommended for curved windshields—choose the wider version based on the degree of curvature. Precise measurements are essential, so always measure the curve dimensions before making a selection.

Quality Matters

Given that your banner will be constantly exposed to the sun, as well as rain, snow, and other challenging weather conditions, it is essential to opt for high-quality materials. An additional layer of transparent lamination is a crucial requirement for such items. It provides protection against both harmful UV sunlight and potential mechanical damage (such as small rocks or scratches) that may occur during use. UV-resistant and weatherproof materials ensure that the sticker maintains its original appearance, allowing for an extended period of use.

Installation Steps

Tools Required:

  • Masking tape
  • Scissors
  • Hobby knife
  • Hair dryer
  • Credit card or rubber squeegee
  • Clean the Windshield:
  • Now you have your banner and supplies all ready to go you should start by cleaning the surface where the banner will be getting installed. If there is any dust or dirt under the sticker it will show through in the banner itself. Clean the area thoroughly with rubbing alcohol or soap and water. Do not use Windex or similar products because it will leave a residue behind that will prevent the sticker from adhering well. Allow to dry. Do not forget to wash hands too to remove any oil or dirt.
  • Measure and Align:
  • Once the windshield is clean, center your banner. When it appears to be nearly centered, begin measuring the distance from the corner of the windshield to the bottom of your banner. Once the measurements align on both sides, use a piece of masking tape to firmly secure the banner in place. Run a strip of masking tape down the center of the decal onto the mounting surface, both top and bottom. This will create left and right mounting halves which will hold the entire product (both layers) in place while mounting.
  • Peel and Stick:
  • Lift the left half up, stopping at the center, next to the masking tape. Carefully peel the paper back liner away from the vinyl decal. Cut away the left half back liner with scissors. Starting from the center, use a squeegee with a sweeping motion up and down to mount the left side of the decal. Use tension to follow the contour of the windshield. A heat source may be used to make the stretching banner follow the contour of the windshield. Remove the masking tape. Remove the Back Liner from the right side of the decal and repeat mounting procedures for the left side.
  • Trim the Edges:
  • Due to the curve, you may need to trim the edges for a perfect fit. Use a sharp utility knife for the cleanest cut. Carefully trim away excess material. Do not cut the rubber sealer for the windshield.
  • Seal and Secure:
  • Use a squeegee or a flat edge to secure the banner and seal any edges.

Conclusion

Installing a printed windshield banner is more than just a decorative effort; it’s an expression of your personality and a way to make your vehicle uniquely yours. The curvature of the windshield does pose challenges, but with a little preparation and the right selection, you can have a sticker that not only looks great but also fits perfectly. So go ahead, pick your banner and let your car radiate your unique spirit.
