Our team applied their best efforts and extensive experience to design and print the purchased windshield banner with meticulous attention to its tiniest details, and you’ve finally received it in your mail. Now it’s time to put it on your windshield to make it shine! So, let’s get started and make the installation process a smooth and simple!
The most significant challenge of installing a windshield banner lies in the curve of the glass and the contour of the roof of your car. A banner that appears perfectly sized on a flat surface may end up looking inappropriate or even have to be cut when applied to a curved windshield. The more curvature your windshield or roof has, the wider your banner will need to be. This is because, during installation, the curvature will effectively “shrink” the visible area of the sticker, requiring you to trim the edges for a snug fit. We offer several banner sizes by default, including 60 inch x 6 inch, 60 inch x 8 inch, 60 inch x 10 inch, and 60 inch x 12 inch. These variety of sizes allows you to find the perfect fit for your windshield, even if it has a lot of curvature, and some trimming may be required for a smooth installation. The thinner 6 inch wide banner is preferable for mostly straight windshields. Wider versions (8 inch, 10 inch, or 12 inch) are recommended for curved windshields — choose the wider version based on the degree of curvature. Precise measurements are essential, so always measure the curve dimensions before making a selection.
Before beginning the application process, gather the necessary tools and materials:
Tools and Materials:
- Cleaning supplies (isopropyl alcohol, lint-free cloth)
- Rubber squeegee or credit card
- Masking tape or magnets
- Scissors
- Hobby knife
- Hair dryer (optional)
Step-by-Step Guide
With your banner and supplies ready, begin by cleaning the surface where the banner will be installed. Dust or dirt under the sticker can show through the banner itself. Thoroughly clean the area with rubbing alcohol or soap and water to remove any dirt, dust, or residue from the application surface. Avoid using Windex or similar products, as they can leave a residue that hinders the sticker’s adhesion. Allow the cleaned surface to dry. Don’t forget to wash your hands too to remove excess oil or dirt, as the banner comes without an additional transfer layer, and you might touch the adhesive during installation.
Once the windshield is clean, center your banner. When it appears to be nearly centered, begin measuring the distance from the corner of the windshield to the bottom of your banner. Once the measurements align on both sides, use a piece of masking tape to firmly secure the banner in place. The banner should be attached in a way that its side parts fully fit the corners of the windshield and leave no gap between the roof’s curve and the vinyl. The center part of the banner may excessively extend beyond the roof-window line in such a mounting, and this is entirely normal. It just indicates that the curvature of your windshield is significant, and the excess vinyl will be trimmed there. Place a strip of masking tape down the center of the decal onto the mounting surface, both at the top and bottom. This will create left and right mounting halves to securely hold the entire product (both layers) in place during mounting.
Lift the left half up, stopping at the center, next to the installed masking tape. Carefully peel the paper backing away from the vinyl decal. Cut away the left half of the backing with scissors. Starting from the center, use a squeegee in a sweeping motion, moving up and down to mount the left side of the decal. Apply tension to ensure it follows the contour of the windshield. If needed, you can use a hair dryer to help the banner stretch and conform to the windshield’s shape.
Remove the central piece of masking tape, it’s no longer needed since the banner holds on place by the already aplied left side. Remove the backing paper from the right side of the decal and repeat the mounting procedure from Step 3 for the right side.
Depending on the curvature of your windshield, you may need to trim the escessive vinyl on the edges and the central part of the banner to match the curve of the roof-window line for a perfect fit. To achieve a clean cut, use a sharp utility knife. Trim away excess material carefully, taking care not to cut the rubber seal around the windshield. Use a squeegee or a credit card to secure the banner and seal any edges.
